The members of BPW/Anchorage invite you to be our guest at an upcoming
meeting or event to learn why you would enjoy being part of this Local
Organization of the Alaska Federation of Business & Professional Women, an

BPW/Anchorage activities include monthly program meetings, special events, and fundraisers to support our Workforce Advancement Scholarship Program. We tend to the administration of the organization at regular business meetings.
The Workforce Advancement Scholarship Program targets the non-traditional student - women seeking to re-enter the workforce, broaden their skills, or further their education to advance their career.
Program meetings are the First Tuesday of the month (September through May) at the Snow Goose Restaurant, 717 W 3rd Ave, 2nd floor, starting at 5:30 p.m. with an opportunity to network and order from the menu before the meeting is called to order at 6. Meetings include a welcome and self-introductions followed by an informative program, Q&A and announcements, concluding at 7:30. Guests are always welcome. Join us for for this program about building media relationships for your business and organization, part of our continuing series based on the BPW signature Individual Development Program, presented by Sarana Schell, Public Information Officer, Alaska Department of Health and Social Services. Highlights include honing your message (what you have to say determines how you say it ); moving your message (media options); working with the media (writing a press release - and moving beyond press releases); and when to skip the media (when what you are doing isn't worth a story).
Business meetings convene the Third Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at International House, 2009 Wildwood Lane. Friends of BPW/Anchorage and guests are welcome to participate. Only a member in good standing may chair a committee or cast a vote.
The BPW/Anchorage Workforce Advancement Scholarship offers financial aid to selected, qualified applicants enrolled in a course of business study (to include computer classes, short-term skill/career path classes, continuing education courses, or other accredited education), public or private college, trade school, apprenticeship, or a vocational/technical school. The award may be used to offset tuition, registration fees, books, course fees, or expenses such as transportation or child-care necessary to enable the applicant to pursue the goals outlined in their application. Preference is given to non-traditional female students seeking to re-enter the workforce or advance their career.
BPW/Anchorage was pleased to award scholarships in October 2009 to Dallas Jeanne McDonald, future teacher of art to children; Michelle Lynn McKnight, future Certified Medical Assistant; and Gayle L. Nauska, future Licensed Professional Counselor. Applications for fall 2010 awards will be available here in the spring.
